What is General
Liability Insurance?

A general liability insurance policy also known as business liability insurance provides businesses with protection against property damages and bodily injuries. A general liability insurance is a must for every company whether small, medium or a large corporate company. It can provide great assistance in covering all the medical and legal bills associated with bodily injures and also pay for all property damages for which the business is primarily responsible.

But a general liability insurance doesn’t provide coverage against injuries to employees, vehicle accidents, professional mistakes or any kind of punitive damages. In some states the municipality may ask you as a business to carry atleast a minimum amount in terms of general liability. In this age of lawsuits, even a minor accidents can be blown out of proportions and end in huge lawsuits that will sap all your money out. A BOP or a business owners policy may combine both the liability aspect as well as the property insurance into it making it more comfortable for many companies.

General liability insurance provides coverage for:

  • Bodily injuries
  • Property damage liabilities
  • Advertising injury
  • Medical payment
  • Any damages caused to the premises you’ve rented
  • Products completed operations

Basically a general liability insurance comes with a maximum amount and if the amount exceeds the coverage amount, then the company needs to bear the additional cost. And this is where umbrella liability insurance can come to your rescue as it covers for the payments above the limits of the liability insurance.
